It can happen from a smell or a place. You get a whiff of a cologne an old boyfriend used to wear, or you drive by the park where you had your first kiss and BAM! For a moment you are transported back in time. Although this sort of thing happens every now and then, I find it is the music from my younger years that often triggers memories. Here's a few examples of my recent musical memories and the thought they brought back to my mind. Oh Sherry by Journey - I always roll my eyes when I hear the chorus. Although the lyrics are "Oh Sherry, our love - goes on, goes on.." I spent years singing "Oh Sherry, our love - clothes on, clothes on." I thought Steve Perry was simply a guy encouraging his girlfriend to not be so slutty. What a stand up kind of a guy!
"Maniac" from the movie Flashdance - The first time I saw this video I was watching her doing all that super speed jogging in place and thought - "wow, she really IS a Maniac"
Two Hearts by Stacey Q - to this day, hearing this song makes me want to grab the Aqua Net hairspray and make my hair as big and fluffy as possible.
Most songs by Def Leopard - this played on the radio one night while kissing my date goodnight in my driveway. "Uh oh... June...you are now experiencing the type of moment usually seen in a seminary video about morality" Right on cue the front door opens and my grandfather yells for me to come inside.
TRUE by Spandau Ballet - this was the last song played at a New Years Even dance at BYU. The guy I had a huge crush on came up to me and asked me to dance the last dance with him. I couldn't believe it! I had no idea he liked me too. He took my hand and led me to the dance floor. I turned and looked over my shoulder to my friends who were smiling and giving me lots of Thumbs Up! It was like a scene from Sixteen Candles.
Kyrie by Mr. Mister - back then I loved this song and had no clue what or who Kyrie was. Today? Still no idea.
The list goes on and on...
What songs bring back a memory for you?
