Photo Magic

taken with phone
When digital cameras first came out I was so happy.
No more picking up photos from the pharmacy only to find out someone looked weird in each picture. Instead, I could instantly look and see if anyone had their eyes closed, or made a funny face.  If I liked the photo, then great!
If not, I could try again.
I thought it couldn't get better - and then smart phones came out with photoshop apps.  I was in love.
My favorite photo app is
Just yesterday, I discovered there is a free Pixlr-o-matic for your home computer. All the pictures below were taken with a web cam and then edited using the PC version of Pixlr-o-matic.

There are tons of options for all sorts of different looks, and it is really easy to use.

The only bad thing about Pixlr is it can be addictive because it lots of fun to get creative with your pictures.
Did I mention it is free?  Big thumbs up!

NieNie's Book - Heaven is Here

I think about her all the time.

When I feel life isn't fair
or when I wonder in amazement
about how God's plan for me
is so very different than what
I had pictured as a young girl.

When I'm having a day where I feel
not so cute
or that I'm not the right size.

When I want to feel like one person
can make an impact on this world.

and when I need a reminder
of what is truly important in life,
I go read her blog when I want to be inspired
or when I want a fun idea on ways to add fun to life.
and sometimes, when I feel very blessed
and happy to know I am a daughter of God,
I visit NieNie's Blog and smile
because I know she believes
she is a precious daughter of God too.

I am so looking forward to buying
Stephanie Nielson's book on April 3, at Barnes & Noble
or pre-order now on Amazon,
for half price by clicking above!
I just ordered mine.

Are you going to read it too?

If only Men came with a Fact Sheet

This is what happens when instead of doing laundry, I get on Facebook.....

Had the weirdest dream last night. You know those nutritional facts that all packaged food is required to have? Well, in my dream all the men came with those facts tattooed on their foreheads. Instead of seeing how much Fiber or Carbs this guy had, there were categories like Romantic, Hard Working and Has Potential. I do remember one guy had a high score in Still Needs his Mother.

And THIS is what happens when my friends & I decide this is an awesome idea!

ARE YOU HAVING A BAD DAY?

A few years ago a friend sent me this in an email after hearing I had a horrible day at work, and it made me smile.  My friend had a bad day today, so I'm hoping it makes her smile as well.
Cheer up Nicole!
THE NEXT TIME YOU THINK YOU ARE HAVING A BAD DAY

Fire authorities in California found a corpse in a burned out section of forest while assessing the damage done by a forest fire. The deceased male was dressed in a full wet suit, complete with scuba tanks on his back, flippers, and face mask. A post-mortem revealed that the person died not from burns, but from massive internal injuries.
Dental records provided a positive identification. Investigators then set about to determine how a fully clad diver ended up in the middle of a forest fire. It was revealed that on the day of the fire, the person went for a diving trip off the coast some 20 miles from the forest. The firefighters, seeking to control the fire as quickly as possible, called in a fleet of helicopters with very large dip buckets. Water was dipped from the ocean and then flown to the forest fire and emptied.
You guessed it. One minute our diver was making like Flipper in the Pacific, the next he was doing the breaststroke in a fire dip bucket 300 feet in the air. Apparently he extinguished exactly 5'10" of the fire. Some days it just doesn't pay to get out of bed.

My Dinner with a Dummy

There's weird, and then there is REALLY weird.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that it is not just me that thinks taking a doll the size of a 5 year old to dinner, AND ordering a meal for that doll is weird.  Having a conversation with and spoon feeding that doll is weird.  Weird and freaky.  One of the strangest things I've seen - and I have seen some over the top weird stuff!

What is REALLY strange is sitting in that same restaurant and watching these two dinner companions for almost an hour. I've seen the movies where dolls come to life so I was not to happy about the look on the doll's face.  For the record, I did try to take a sneaky  picture but I was to nervous that the woman speaking to the doll had an imaginary bodyguard.

So instead, I just watched and our server explained that this woman comes in all the time with her "child" and it freaks them all out.  I kept thinking how badly I would like to hear the conversation the woman & her doll were having.  And what kind of madness must go on behind the closed doors of that home?!  Creeps me out.

Mary Ann
Maybe it's Mary Ann's fault.  When I was growing up, we had a doll that used to be my mother's, named Mary Ann.  She was the size of a three or four year old and she looked almost exactly like this picture on the right.  Sometimes my mom would refer to Mary Ann as her other daughter.  Last time I saw Mary Ann, she was wearing old clothes that used to belong to my little sister.  At Christmas Mary Ann would join the festivities around the tree.  One year, when my family went to visit family for Easter, Mary Ann had a new dress and her own Easter basket.  Even as adults, my sisters and I would walk into the room and get creeped out by our plastic sibling.

Lisa:  "Hey June, did you get mom her blanket she asked for?"
June:  "No, I sent Kay in.  Mary Ann was looking at me weird"
Lisa:   "Kay, did you get the blanket?"
Kay:   "No.  I think I saw Mary Ann move. Lisa, can you get it?"
Seconds later.....
June:   "Lisa, did you get it?"
Lisa:  "Sort of.  I threw the blanket over Mary Ann and then hurried and grabbed a different one."
Kay:  "Next time let's send Mark."

The very worst, most scary sight was when one of  the collection of dolls found its way into the bathroom.  I still remember the feeling of walking into the dark bathroom in the middle of the night, sitting down and glancing upwards where my eyes meet the glass eyes of my plastic nemesis.  Mary Ann, as well just about all other dolls, joined Clowns that day in my "That is some Messed up Crap" category.

So, maybe this is why the lady eating dinner with her doll seemed weird to me.  It was quite a sight to behold.  Just when you feel like your life is a bit crazy, a woman and her doll come along and remind you that it could be so much worse.

I'll take my crazy life, with all my crazy friends and family, thank you very much!  There are levels of crazy I never imagined.   So, I'm smiling today at my wonderful, but sometimes strange and frustrating life.  I'm going to just own my crazy, and let Pinocchio's wife and child do their thing.  Have a great, but not to weird weekend!

What's it like to be a Parent? It's like a being a Duck on a windy day.

What's it like to be a parent?
I have to laugh when young mothers to be ask me this question. Up until now I have had a few varied responses I can go with.  But, when it comes to being the parent of teenagers or older children with (heaven forbid) a mind of their own, I am sometimes at a loss for words.

How do I explain to them,  what it is like to think your child is lost or caught up in a whirlwind of bad choices?  The advice I have been given was to just hang on and wait for them to come to their senses.  When the storms come, and the wind blows, stay calm and focused.  Don't freak out because you will need to be strong when your children look to you for direction. That is tough, but I hear it is sometimes the only thing to do.  Sometimes it helps to laugh and smile instead of being sad or depressed so,  I found the perfect video which says it all.   Thank you Mrs. Duck for your great example, of being focused and strong in the midst of a whirlwind.
And thank heaven for subtitles.    Enjoy!
