Are you aware of what is going on in your own backyard? Many of us don't have a clue.
In the last month I came face to face with a registered sex offender (had a wee little chat I'm sure he will remember), moved into another area with two offenders living within a mile of my home, spoke to parents about how to protect their families and worked with a few friends on ways to raise awareness. Then, just a few days ago a friend of ours had some guy try to pull his daughter into a van while she was walking home from school. Luckily, she fought like her dad had taught her (ending with her giving him a kick to his head) and was able to get away. What a world we live in. When I really think about it, it can be quite overwhelming. When that happens - when I feel like the problem is to big to overcome - instead of feeling frustrated, I think about all the wonderful, hard working people out there who are doing all they can to make a change. I think about the stories from the survivors. I think about these cool people in the picture below:

I think about
Stephanie Larsen, (she is wonderful) and her sweet mother who is a survivor. I think about Dani & Tyler and how I want to be just like them someday. I think about Jess & Nick and remember the heartfelt words of support to those teenagers, and their determination to make a difference. I think about my fellow Mentors who I admire beyond words but most of all I think about the amazing teenagers I got to hang out with this summer. Every..Single..One of them is a credit to their generation. How many of us are inspired by the youth in our area? I look at how hard they are currently working in their schools and hometowns to bring awareness to the problem of sex trafficking right here in America. How many teenagers do you know, that would stand up and talk about scary topics like sex trafficking? Well, I know of at least 25. After getting to know them, let me tell you honestly...These kids will change the world! So, I am giving Backyard Broadcast and their Station Chiefs a HUGE shoutout!! YOU GUYS ROCK! What a great organization with dedicated people, fighting for such an important and worthy cause! Check 'em out!
HOW MUCH DO YOU KNOW ABOUT SEX TRAFFICKING IN AMERICA?

As an organization, our quest to abolish Sex Trafficking of in America starts with the 95% of American citizens who don't associate Human Trafficking being in our own backyards. Our goal is to reach every man, woman and child with the truth of what's happening in hopes of creating real and lasting change.
Change starts with awareness, and often, the issue of child sex trafficking can be a hard subject to talk about. But the truth is, you cannot change what you refuse to confront. It starts with a change of heart and an opening of the eyes towards the crimes against humanity.
Each Backyard Broadcast Station across America has been charged with surveying their communities at the beginning and end of each school year. This allows us the opportunity to see how effective our awareness efforts are throughout the year.

As an organization, our goal is to create an army of advocates and activists who share in our vision of the future where the sex trafficking of American Children is abolished.
We ask that our readers also contribute to our Sex Trafficking in America awareness survey and help us complete our Nation-wide view on how US Citizens perceive of the problem. Please take the next few minutes to fill out our brief survey.
