All my friends had heard about the fastest growing planned community in the states, and as a whole, they all had good things to say. The few negatives were things like:
"we would move there if it weren't for the commute to work"
"I don't feel like moving"
"I heard it's windy."
That last one was my favorite because everyone knows the rest of Utah never feels even the slightest breeze...ever....at all. House - Good Wind - Bad
I decided to google the information I was seeking and typed D A Y B R E A K into my search engine. I easily landed on their website and began to see what all the fuss was about. Honestly, this place looked to good to be true. Children laughing, playing, a kid feeding popcorn to a duck, and there were a few people walking dogs. (And on a leash no less!)
I saw beautiful homes in all different shapes and sizes, homes in various price ranges and people living the American dream. It reminded me of The Truman Show where everything looked just a wee bit TOO perfect But of course Truman (Jim Carrey) had no idea the place he knew as home was far from the realities of real life. Before I continue you have to know how deeply, to the very core of my soul, Jim Carrey bugs me. He bugs me a lot.
Watching 99% of his movies is like sitting in a small classroom while 20 first graders scratch their nails across the blackboard over and over again. It is because of Jim that I decided my mission - if I chose to accept it - was to not be fooled into thinking such a place really exists. Does a place exist in Utah, where community and lifestyle exceed expectations? Are the rumors true? Is Daybreak really what they claim to be? I set off to find out.
After two days of investigating, here just a few things I learned:
- Daybreak is like a small town and has a small, hometown feel. There really were lots of smiling, happy people everywhere we went. There were parks with kids playing. Boys riding bikes and couples holding hands as they walked around the lake. I saw three sets of women jogging - and I swear to you those joggers were smiling as well. I bet even the animals in Daybreak smile.
- Every home has its own charm and character. The only down side I could fine was that it would be tough to chose the style of home you wanted with so many different choices.
- There is a big lot of land used as a community garden. One of my fellow bloggers told me that no one could build a garden at home because there is not enough space in their yard. I saw quite a few homes that had more than enough room for a garden, and I saw homes with already established gardens.
- Daybreak has churches and schools, a clinic and a community center. They have cute little shops, selling cute little things. Places to eat lots of yummy stuff and a gym for burning off what you just ate.
- It took me just over an hour to drive out to Daybreak from Provo. My son has been there numerous times and he assured me it would take about 40 minutes for me to drive there from our home. I couldn't remember what exit he said I needed to take, so I called up my sister Lisa and asked her for directions. Instead of the average 40 minute drive to Daybreak, it took me over an hour. But that's only because Lisa and I kept laughing. While she was giving directions I unknowingly passed 4 exits I should have taken. I could never be on The Amazing Race.
- The houses I walked through are to die for, well built and beautifully styled by talented designers like Brian Clark Design. I got to go to a class he taught on Interior Design and oh man - this guy's the real deal.
It was just after 9 o'clock Saturday evening when I pulled into my driveway. Waiting for me was an email from a friend I have not spoken to in a while, who lives right in the middle of Daybreak. She had heard I was there and she wanted me to know how much she and her family love living there. She had no idea I was going to blog about my weekend and up until that day I had no idea she had moved since I last saw her. That was the final straw for me. I had heard directly from someone who knows first hand. The rumors were true...Daybreak is amazing.
From everything I've seen and heard, Daybreak is a great place to have a home, a family, and a lifestyle that is even better than what Truman had. He didn't know anything about how scary the world can be when you are trying to raise a family or about finding a good place to call home where people actually get to know their neighbors. But I do know, and that's what makes me appreciate the community that has been created.

I am closing my investigation, concluding that Daybreak really is everything it claims to be and more. That MORE is the announcement that a home will be built and designed top to bottom by bloggers and they will do it in 90 days. Just in time for the Parade of Homes. How cool is that?! I am now a believer, and you will be too!
Nothing is Perfect but Daybreak comes close.
Go check it out, see for yourself and tell them Simply June sent you.
Walk through some homes, visit the shops and walk by the lake.

You're going to love it.....unless of course, you dislike the wind or air in general. Then I recommend building one of these homes on the moon.

Just for the record I did not say "I heard it's windy". Rather every time I have been there I have felt like the wind is blowing me to stand at a 45 degree angle. Day, night, winter, summer, it doesn't matter I felt like I was in the middle of a tornado and since I truely detest the wind that is a problem for me.
ReplyDeleteMy sister is the one who said "I heard it's windy". She lives by the point of the mountain and gets tons of wind gusts. I heard others talk about it being windy there in Daybreak, even myself! It WAS windy! She and I were laughing about how the only negative thing she could thing of was "I heard it was windy."
