Pinterest made me a Sinner

I saw a quote the other day that said, “Pinterest is like Fantasy Football for Women”

I don’t know exactly how Fantasy Football works but what I do know is that seemingly normal men turn into a 12 year old version of themselves when they play this make-believe version of football. In their brains, for that moment in time, there is no fantasy. They are athletes. They believe they are playing on the real team and they love it.

PINTEREST is kind of the same. We hop online and shop for whatever we like while never spending a dime. It’s a great place to file away all sorts of things we like. If only I had stuck with repining items…. If only I hadn’t decided to pin a cute DIY idea from one of my favorite blogs. But I couldn’t help myself.
It had only been about 15 minutes when messages started popping up in my email.

“Kathy and 14 others have repined your pin “cute idea”.

“Barbara and 7 others LIKE your pin”.
It happened in an instant. I thought to myself: “Yeah, that’s right! I knew that was a cute idea!” Ah, yes…. Validation. It was proof I had good taste. Could I do it again? There was an entire world of items online, just waiting for me.
MUST. FIND. MORE.
MUST. PIN. MORE.
I was on a Pinterest high and I knew it wouldn’t be long before I got my next fix. Since then, I have infected many others and I hear there is no cure. I am addicted and I know it. PRIDE is one of the deadly sins and Pinterest has made me a sinner. No guilt what-so-ever and I have no plans to change. After all, I'm only human.
I blame Fantasy Football. Somewhere, somehow, a woman had been infected by her man. Since joining the team, he had been so happy. He had also been gone a lot, leaving behind a laptop and that laptop was calling her name. The woman emailed an invite to her sister, who in turn, emailed all her friends. The rest, as they say, is history.

Rarely does the Fantasy Football-loving man infect a woman. Can you imagine?
HIM: “Hey Babe, I’m leaving for Fantasy Football a bit early tonight. I have a big game tonight and I want to give my team a nice pep talk”.

HER: “No worries, take your time. The girls are coming over to play Fantasy Laundry and Diane’s kids threw up in bed last night so we have stains that may not come out of her bedding….All my girls need a pep talk too”.
Oh yeah, that will totally catch on someday. Maybe I am more like those Fantasy Football players than I realized. We both take a moment out of our normal, everyday lives to escape reality for a moment or two. The guys imagine they are players in the Superbowl. Those of us on Pinterest imagine we will actually make a wreath out of spoons, furnish our dream home, cook all 135 recipies using chicken and fit in all the cute outfits we have pinned. It's our Fantasy, and its great.

Maybe someday I'll get around to making half the DIY ideas on my board. Until then, I’ll see you and my fellow sinners on PINTEREST!

  1. Pinterest is evil. It has made me a sinner too. I avoided it for as long as I could but I finally gave in. I try not to spend too much time on it because it takes away from my Facebook time.
